On March 24, Stockbridge’s 7th and 8th grade choir went to the Holt Choir Festival, which is the MSVMA, (Michigan Schools Vocal Music Association), District Eight Choir Festival and made an outstanding performance in their rated festival performances.

Stockbridge’s choir scored a 94 of 100, which earned a good rating. The choir also received a perfect score on sight reading.

“I am very proud of our 53 member choir,” Stockbridge choir teacher Carol Hatch said. “They looked so professional and sounded like one in perfect harmony. We shoulder danced, sang dynamically with good direction, demonstrated good balance of sound with perfect rhythms, lovely performance etiquette and more!”

The first kind of medal is a superior, and it is earned by making only one or two mistakes. An excellent is the second and is earned by making only three or four mistakes. The last medal to be earned is a good, and it is earned by making five to six mistakes. Anything below these rating receives a certificate.

The choir’s performance resulted in an invitation to sing at a honor’s choir next year in Grand Rapids at the DeVos Center.

“I think our choir did amazing in our performances,” eighth grade choir student Jenna Robinson said. “We had the whole crowd on their toes singing and dancing with us. Being on the stage and winning the medal makes me feel very proud of our choir and shows the hard work and passion we have for signing.”
