Winter weather causes additional minutes

The heavy snow storms and unpredictable events are to blame for the minutes added to the school day starting Monday, April 9. Stockbridge Jr/Sr High will be starting school at 7:32 a.m. instead of the regular 7:35 a.m. start time.

Districts are required to offer at least 1,098 hours of instruction and a minimum of 175 days of instruction according to Michigan Department of Education. With multiple snow days and early releases, the Jr/Sr High is a few hours short of this requirement.

“Buses already get here around 7:15 a.m. and kids can get breakfast, so they have plenty of time to do that,” principal Jeffery Trapp said.

Most students seem unaffected by the change. Sophomore Brandon Nelson said, “It doesn’t bother me, it’s only 3 minutes.”
