In 2021, the Detroit Pistons claimed the first pick, selecting Cade Cunningham from the University of Oklahoma State. Through rough patches and a long 16 years, the Pistons were able to turn around their franchise and develop into a hard-battling and consistent playoff team. The Pistons currently stand first in the conference and 2nd overall in the entire basketball association. With high hopes, the Pistons continue to put their nose to the grindstone, battling for the ultimate prize of an NBA Championship. The Fort Wayne Zollner Pistons, but better known now as the Detroit Pistons, were established in 1937. They originally played in Fort Wayne, Indiana, but then moved to Detroit in 1957, where they became the Detroit Pistons. The Pistons had very little success until they finally found their footing in the late 80’s when the “bad boys,” including Isiah Thomas, Joe Dumars, and Bill Laimbeer, led them to a Championship in 89’ and 90’. Following that, the team entered a rebuild, and in the early 2000s, a new group, including Chauncey Billups and Ben Wallace, won a Championship in 2004, beating the Los Angeles Lakers. Now, looking for that success again, the Pistons are competing at the highest level, just like many years ago.
