Fifty Shades of Black and Blue
The grey area between the exploitation of women and entertainment
April 28, 2015
Women are just sex objects according to the fans of the new phenomenon known as “Fifty Shades of Grey” that hit the theatres last month. For some, this was a long awaited event, but for others, it sensationalizes questionable behaviors. Anastasia Steele and Christian Grey’s shady sexual behavior and abusive male dominance feeds the minds of adolescents with toxic messages.
Some may argue that the abuse is consensual and that free choice is being exercised, but according to psychiatrist Meg Meeker, M.D., this is a “flawed logic” and any “self-destructive decision is a bad decision.”
Anastasia’s judgment was impaired as she was under the influence of alcohol. Not only that, but this was also her first sexual experience ever and neuroscience suggests that intimacy fast forwards feelings of attachment and trust.
Have I seen this movie? No.
I refuse to give my own money to a company that produces and promotes a movie that purposely demoralizes and debilitates women all for the sake of amusement and profit making.
Because of movies like this, girls continue to feel like they must behave in this sexual manner toward boys. We are entitled to our own bodies, ladies. No man has control over what we do with them.
This movie fabricates sexual behaviors and makes something that should be described as rape seem like a love story. This is no love story. This is a lust story. It is all about eroticism, money, good looks and manipulation. There is nothing romantic about being physically and emotionally beaten for sexual pleasure.
This movie makes young girls question what is morally right and wrong and what they deserve in a relationship. Sure, Anastasia gives her consent, but under the influence of alcohol and this fairy-tale that Christian created for her that is full of fancy cars, first loves, new jobs and manipulation. Any relationship with violence, consensual or not is an unhealthy relationship.
Fifty Shades of Grey? More like Fifty Shades of Black and Blue because there is nothing grey about this movie.
