Stockbridge Community Outreach helped local families celebrate Thanksgiving by providing meals to more than 100 households in the community.
This Thanksgiving, Outreach was able to give out 104 turkeys and 110 bags full of great Thanksgiving sides that went with each turkey. With 104 turkeys being given away that means 104 families were able to enjoy a great meal with the ones that they care about.
There were food drives all over the town to help create these meals, and the school food drive that ran from November, really came together to aid this cause.
In fact, through the school, 750 total items were donated. One class that really stepped up was Rita Stricklin’s AP Literature and Composition class. The seniors in her class donated a third of the total amount with over 250 items, including 4 turkeys.
“There have been food drives at the schools that brought in so much of what we put in the bags,” said the outreach coordinator Gwen Reid.
“I’m really happy with the turn out of donations this year. It makes me proud to be a part of this community,” senior Bradley Rowe said.
Outreach is in preparation to do the exact same thing this Christmas and are planning to do ham or they will do a turkey if the family prefers that.
If you are financially able to donate please do so that members in our community can have a full stomach on Christmas, too.
