Michigan roads are crumbling beneath our tires as we drive. Michigan roads are ridden with potholes making it a lot harder and dangerous for Michigan drivers.
Potholes are made from water freezing on the roads and expanding causing holes to form which explains why Michigan is ranked third for the amount of potholes in the country because our roads always freeze. According to state data, 1/10th of Accidents in Michigan are caused by potholes.
This issue should matter to all drivers because you never know when you could hit a pothole and cause damage to your car or be put into a ditch.
It’s not just an inconvenience, but it’s a safety and financial issue that affects every driver.
“In my lower car I kind of swerve away from them so I don’t mess up my car,” said senior Gavin Suter. Many others do the same, trying to dodge road damage while also avoiding collisions. Drivers should not be forced to go into the other lane to avoid potholes so that their cars don’t take damage from them.
Potholes can cause damage to your vehicle that you will have to pay for, some of the things that could break are your tires and wheels which you would have to pay for and they go around $250 dollars for a wheel. A pothole could also cause damages to your suspension and steering which can cause you to lose a lot of your money that very few can afford to lose. I feel if damages are caused by a government issue they should pay for the repairs, but they don’t which is ridiculous.
Michigan is trying to fix our roads, but it’s just not enough. Even though Lansing and surrounding areas have around 23 million dollars to fix potholes, we still have so many to deal with.
In smaller towns, we have to deal with potholes a lot more than people in bigger cities and it is ridiculous. What seems even more ridiculous is that we need to report them and have them fixed. To make a report, you can call 888-296-4546 and report the potholes, but it shouldn’t take endless reports for them to fix it, it’s been plaguing our state for so long we are due for a solution.
If you say you don’t care just wait you and your wallet will feel it.
