In 1962, Stockbridge welcomed Joyce Dickinson and her husband as new residents of the community. Their journey to Stockbridge started when Joyce’s husband helped build and eventually co-owned the local bowling alley at the time.
Joyce found her place in Stockbridge when she became the secretary at the high school.
“I did the internal accounting for the school district,” Joyce said. “We had three children that grew up and graduated from Stockbridge High School.”
After living in Stockbridge for 62 years, it is no surprise that Joyce holds a special place in her heart for many of Stockbridge’s traditions of the past and present.
“They used to have the Centennial parades and they always had a parade for the 4th of July and Memorial Day,” Joyce said. “They have discontinued a lot of those but those are some of my nice memories, meeting people in Stockbridge.”
Loving the community that they lived in, Joyce and her husband decided to give back. Both participated in the Goal of Lions Club and Joyce also belonged to the Eastern Star, an organization that emphasizes charity and community service. “We were active in the Methodist Church,” Joyce said. “I really enjoyed living in Stockbridge.”
