A wrap that is now being offered for lunch

New lunch options hit the cafeteria during December, along with free breakfast options available for all students. The lunch staff have made chicken wraps that fly out of there quickly along with more hot lunch options, and Stephanie White, Food Service Director, couldn’t be more pleased.

The changes rolled in on December 1st, and offered free breakfast to students across the district. “We kinda had a little bit of extra funds from grants and whatnot during COVID-19,” White said. “So we figured what better way to use some than to give back and do free breakfast.”

According to White, more kids are starting to get breakfast, as well.

“It’s starting to pick up a little more,” White said. “High schools are always a little sluggish because we have McDonald’s and you all drive and whatnot. But elementary is where I think parents are finally catching on.”

The new lunch options consist of a requestable chicken wrap, which is wrapped in paper. It can be requested in the place of hot lunch. In addition, new hot meals have been introduced, including brunch for lunch, chili-cheese dogs and french bread pizza.

”It’s actually trying to find the time to be able to make all of the wraps the kids want,” White said.

With new changes in the lunch line, White and the other school staff hope that this initiative helps students in the long run.

“I think a lot of these families are still struggling financially, maybe even more now than they were during COVID-19,” White said. “So at least this is a little bit given back of what was taken away. It’d be nice to be able to offer free lunches, too.”

Students are also noticing the changes, like senior Paul Marshall.

“I liked the waffles,” Marshall said. “I wish lunch was free though, ‘cause sometimes people aren’t able to get lunch because they don’t have money.”
