Currently, there are 73 kindergarten students enrolled and 17 in the Young 5’s program for the 2016 school year according to Brad Edwards the principal at Smith Elementary.
This low enrollment for kindergarten-aged children will result in the school district losing money through the Per-Pupil Foundation, according to high school principal Richard Cook.
Translation for students: Our school receives funding based on enrollment. With lower enrollment comes less funding for this school as well. Fewer students means less of everything for high school students, too.
