The Panther Yearbook Wins the Coveted Spartan Award
February 1, 2018
Results are in for state competition and The Panther Yearbook team is pleased to share that it won the coveted Spartan Award with Distinction for the 2017 NOW themed yearbook.
Out-of-state judge, Dr. Elizabeth Keeling, commented, “This is a beautiful book. I wish every student from every small school/town was able to have such a showstopping publication in their hands to remember their high school years. There are so many amazing things to comment on in this book. You have chosen a great theme that you’ve developed well throughout the book. The design is interesting and organized–you have used graphics and typography so very well to serve your readers to easily navigate through each spread, section and through the book. Your staff has photographed so many activities and events—all with a careful eye to capture candid action and to describe/give additional storytelling information in the captions.”
Participating media outlets may receive a Bronze, Silver, Gold or Spartan Award based on how well they meet the Michigan Interscholastic Press Association’s student media standards. Student media free of prior review may receive their award “with Distinction.” Spartan Award winners are recognized at MIPA’s Spring Awards & On-Site Contests in April.
The team also earned the All-American rating from the National Scholastic Press Association and a Gold Medalist rating from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association for the 2017 NOW yearbook.
The 2018 yearbook is under production and can be ordered through the end of February at jostensyearbooks.
