Varsity cross country places 4th in States
Three out of seven runners placed 20th or below
On November 5, the varsity cross country boys ran in the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA), Division 3 States meet at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn. Three out of the five seniors in the program, Jake Chapman, Alan Baird and Jack Youngblood scored high points for the Panthers by placing in 13th, 19th and 20th. Freshmen Ron Tolson and Micah Beauregard and junior Colin Lilley as well as senior Stanley Plennert all added to the final score of 192 points by placing 61st, 79th, 109th and 145th out of 242 runners.
“I feel like we could have ran better,” senior Jake Chapman said. “I mean, top five is nothing to feel bad about, but we ran the best that we could on that particular day.”
At the beginning of the next cross season, the Panthers will be returning three of their seven varsity runners will be given another chance at a successful season. Along with the varsity boys, ran senior Julia Olson. This was her fourth year running at the State meet at Michigan International Speedway and ended up placing 94th out of 242 runners.
“I’m really proud of how I ended my high school career,” senior Julia Olson said. “I’ve worked so hard over the past four years and running well in this meet made it all come together.”
