Bernie Sanders Michigan Rally
Hannah Kightlinger and Sarah Barney waited to enter the Breslin Center as press in East Lansing on March 2, 2016 to take part in the Bernie Sanders rally. “We were really excited to get in. We weren’t sure, because we didn’t RSVP, but we had our credentials. We were nervous we weren’t going to get in, but we got in. It was a really cool experience to be around adult journalists.” said Kightlinger.
Sanders had yet to take stage as the arena began to fill with people.
Barney and Kightlinger sat in the press box. Since they were press, they got access to the whole arena and could go down to ground level where the podium was set up for Sanders to speak.
Kightlinger took out her camera and snapped pictures of the crowd. “I took pictures of everyone coming in. People were sitting on the ground, talking about politics, and interacting.”
Barney took photos of her surroundings while on the ground level.
With the spotlight on him, Sanders got the crowd excited and captured their attention. “He talked about wealth, how the the top one percent has as much wealth as the bottom 90%. Everyone was in agreement. People were so loud when he talked. It would be quiet and then the whole crowd would erupt,” said Barney.
