Adele says ‘Hello’ to ’25’
With the closing of a cell phone, the light of a gas stove and a subtle neck roll, Adele makes a dashing entry back into the music industry with the release of her single “Hello” on October 23.
The song, a tear-jerking ballad, sends chills down the listener’s spine with each powerful crescendo of her voice. Adele pours her heart out to a lost lover through her beautifully composed lyrics.
Of course, not every song is perfect. While the “oos” used as filler space between the last two choruses are stereotypical and all too common, she makes up for it with her classic, soulful vocals that listener’s have fallen for.
Along with her vocals, her astounding makeup and goddess-like persona in the video achieved nearly 1.6 million views every hour in the first 48 hours after the release.
“Hello” is the first track on the stellar album, and is the catalyst for the emotional roller coaster that is Adele’s third studio album, “25”. The ballads “Remedy,” “When We Were Young,” “Love in the Dark” and “All I Ask” are soft, mellow songs inspire violent storms of emotion. The piano, strings, haunting background vocals and beautiful lyrics of each track create a moment of authentic vulnerability within the songs. These tracks are the kind that leave listener’s missing love they have never had.
Although absolutely beautiful, this album would not be Adele worthy if it did not have spunky songs that ignited confidence. “Send My Love (To Your New Lover)” pushes the message of letting go and moving on, similar to “Someone Like You.” However, unlike “Someone Like You,” this song is funky. The vocals are phenomenal, of course, but mixture of odd bassline and groovy guitar hook is the real cornerstone of this song.
Despite the common pop signature of random vocalizing, “25” has sold nearly 2.9 million units in its first week of sales, breaking NSYNC’s previous record of 2.4 million, and each sale is completely deserved.
