Officer McShane recently became the school district’s resource officer. She wanted a change from the previous community she was working in.
“I liked that it was more of a small town. I liked that the people were more pro police and generally just easier to deal with,” McShane said, “I’ve worked in bigger cities and people just weren’t as friendly and polite, they were a lot more difficult to work with when it came to helping to solve crime or helping to find missing children or missing people. It is more difficult to deal with members of the community when they don’t want to talk to you or deal with you even when you’re trying to help them.”
Even though McShane has just moved here she already has goals in place for this year and next.
“One thing that I’m working on right now is crossing guard. I’m trying to get volunteers and actively recruiting for that,” McShane said.
She also wants to implement another elective opportunity for students interested in her career path.
“I’m trying to work with the science teachers right now to help try to teach like a forensic science class,” McShane said, “Possibly even set up a little crime scene and have people come in and try to solve the crime.”
McShane has enjoyed her time here at Stockbridge and is excited for more.
“I like just simply getting to know everybody and getting to be in charge of all the interesting programs,” McShane said.
