After a rough loss last year in the district finals vs Laingsburg, the boy’s varsity basketball team came into this season with high expectations under new head coach Nate Lott. Though the Panthers are off to a good start with seven wins and three losses, not everyone is satisfied with their performance and strive to do better.
“I believe that we are below our expectations, to be honest,” senior varsity basketball starter Foster Pybus said. “We have things that we need to work on throughout the season, but we can only go up from where we are at right now.”
Although this team has had its ups and downs this season, they’re always focusing on getting better and focusing on things they know they lack as a team. One player in particular, junior point guard Noah Sandecki reflected on what needs improvement.
“I think our team lacks effort and effective communication. I feel like when we are out there no one on our team talks as much as they should be, and I think that would help us improve,” Sandecki said.
This season’s success brings hope for the future of Stockbridge basketball. Coach Lott and the basketball program are very involved in working with kids in the community and developing the younger grades to be prepared for high school basketball when they eventually get there.
“Coach Lott brings a vision for the program and what it can be. His commitment to the kids and community makes this vision a plan and not just a dream,” athletic director Ben Kruse said. “Coach Lott has a wealth of experience and connections and has invested time in the coaches at the sub-varsity level to improve their skills to benefit players at all levels.”
