The eighth-grade boys basketball team ended their season in mid December with a final record of 13 wins and 0 losses. They became the Big Eight league champions during their first season in the conference. The team is coached by Jeremy Killinger who treasures how unselfish the boys are and how well they work together in order to succeed.
“The support they show for each other, the belief in each other, is what really sets them apart from other teams,” Killinger said.
The class of 2029 is filled with many athletic boys. 25 athletes tried out for the team, 13 were kept on the roster, leaving 12 that were cut.
“It was one of the hardest things I have had to do as a coach because they are all wonderful athletes,” Killinger said.
This isn’t the only season where the current eighth-grade boys have met great success during basketball season. In the past three years, they have finished state runner-up twice and won the state championship once. They also won the Red Cedar Gold championship two years ago. This continuous success has not only come from their unselfishness but also their desire to make their hometown proud.
“The boys are highly coachable and genuinely care for each other and take great pride in playing for Stockbridge,” Killinger said.
Eighth-grade student Tanner Trapp is a part of the basketball team. He enjoyed spending time with his friends while being able to win games.
“We won our closest game by 20 points,” Trapp said.
