This year, the Boys and Girls’ track teams have both been doing very well in the 2024 season. “I expected this years track season to be fun and go quite good,“ Junior Josiah Muzzin said. They have been working hard as they only have three meets left in the season, so it’s cutting down to crunch time to really show their improvement over the season and the hard work they’ve put in during practice. Muzzin was right, both teams have done really good over the whole season and have improved immensely from the last season.
The boys acquired a new assistant coach, Jake Sawicki, who focuses on sprints. Sawicki ran last year for his senior year and decided to help the boys’ team with coaching.
“I think the boys are doing really well and will only get better,” Sawicki said.
Sawicki coaches boys he once went to school with which can be seen as a challenge.
“It’s really fun but it’s hard to gain the respect as a coach when most of them see you only as a friend, but I think it makes it more interesting and more fun overall,” Sawicki said, “my goal is to make as many players better than they started at and also to get more people to states and finally win something for the school.”
Not only have new coaches joined the teams but, there are also quite a few new people who joined the team this year, and this has ultimately helped both teams. The girls’ team has 13 girls, and the boys have 24 boys this year.
“We have a powerful team for the number of girls we have out. The team consistently scores in the top 5 of most meets, even with only 13 girls on the roster. We have great balance across jumps, throws, sprints, and distance,” varsity girls’ track coach Jacob Robidou said.
Both boy and girl teams have been working hard to put in the work towards their meets. They have already had eight meets which ultimately helped prepare them for the big invitational.
The boys’ team all have fun throughout the whole season, this helps the team better work together and ultimately contributes to their success throughout the entire season.
“Even though I haven’t been able to participate much, I still enjoy hanging out with the team,” Junior Josiah Muzzin said.
The boys are working hard, and have progressed from last season.
“I’m pretty sure we won more meets so far than last year so I’m excited to keep going and watching what happens,” Sawicki said.
The season has a lot in store for the Girl’s team as well.
“So far this season is going pretty good for our team! We have had a lot of personal records met and have been doing well every meet,” senior girls’ varsity runner Samantha Nothnagel said.
The Track Invitational was May 3rd, and both teams were ready to take on the 13 teams that came to compete.
“I think the invitational is going to be an awesome meet! Lots of schools will be there so hopefully we do well,” Nothnagel said.
This was the 44th track invitational for the boys’ and girls’ Track and Field teams. The girls placed third, and the boys placed eighth out of the 13 teams.
