Towering. While trick-or-treaters make their rounds, inflatable ghouls scatter around the campground, decorating campsites. A contest is held every year for decorations, and the campsite that is declared the best wins a prize. The winner will be announced Saturday night after the judges have had a chance to assess every campsite.

Goblins, ghouls, gargoyles and more appear on the campsites of Bruin Lake Campground. Saturday, September 30, Halloween makes an early appearance. All attendees are encouraged to enter in the costume judging contest starting at 5 p.m., and trick-or-treating will take place from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

In addition to the festivities, the campground will be selling raffle tickets during the costume judging contest for the chance to win one of several “wonderful prizes” according to the Halloween Havoc Committee. The proceeds of the raffle tickets will go toward continuing the tradition of this celebration. Donations are also accepted and are to be given to campsite number 10, which is the host site.

Senior Katelyn Meitz enjoys the festivities at the campground and tries to go every year.

“It’s chaotic, but in a good way,” Meitz said. “I like the general feel of Halloween, and the way the campground has it is so it’s scary so teenagers enjoy it, but not so scary so even little kids can participate.”

Guests are allowed to attend, but must know the name and site number of a participating camper in order to be allowed to enter the campground. Campground roads will be closed to traffic for the safety of the trick-or-treaters from 6:45 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. on Saturday according to the Halloween Havoc Committee and Bruin Lake Park Rangers.
