American exceptionalism blinds important news

…besides getting annoyed by another article where presidential hopeful Donald Trump is responsible for headlines, there is a lack of time and dedication to important news.

The Internet makes it possible to inform people fast, at any time. However, trying to gather important news from an American news agency, especially today, makes it harder than it seems.

The presidential election has been the focus of the media in the U.S. for months. Every day, new articles are published, and besides getting annoyed by another article where presidential hopeful Donald Trump is responsible for headlines, there is a lack of time and dedication to important news.

News stories that normally are the center of attention fall into the background due to the massive candidate turmoil. People feel like they miss the other important news that would have been more in focus.

Issues that affect the whole nation, such as the recent U.S. airstrike killing 150 people in Somalia that was covered by CNN and ABC News, two popular American news sources, later than the most popular German news broadcast Tagesschau.

Additionally, there is a lack of foreign news besides wars in the Middle East where the American military is or was involved. While scrolling down the CNN world web page on March 10, all four news reports were about ISIS. Nevertheless, the world did not stop, and topics like the European economy still were serious for America, and therefore, important to all Americans. The reason for this might be the idea of American exceptionalism, or the uniqueness and special qualities the United States has due to its beliefs and history. People focus on their nation more even though America has, for example, trading partners all over the world. However, their economy which is decisive for America doesn’t get covered.

But no nation can successfully work without others. So, this means starting to report on foreign news should be a higher priority in America than it currently is.
