Miley Moser went from sitting on the counter at six years old playing in her mothers makeup bag to waking up every morning to swipe and apply her very own makeup. Moser had always enjoyed makeup from a very early age, but it didn’t become a large part of her life until her 8th grade year. She recognizes makeup as a way to make herself feel more confident and comfortable in her own skin. Essentially, she would consider makeup to be a form of art and a way to have more confidence.

Makeup has been around for thousands of years and has been accommodated to different cultures and people all over the world. Many famous makeup artists including Mario Dedivanovic, Charlotte Tilbury, Bobbi Brown and Pat McGrath have changed makeup globally. They have such an influence on society that they can create new looks and normalize different makeup styles and people will follow. Artists like these usually have been able to express themselves and present their art through makeup.  As for Charlotte Tilbury, she has claimed that makeup is empowering and is a so-called secret weapon. Tilbury has exclaimed that makeup doesn’t have to be changing the face entirely. It simply highlights how natural face features can build confidence.  Bobbi Brown was able to reveal herself  by creating lipstick shades that would fit more people in the eighties. Bobbi was tired of bright neon lip shades that were taking over society. She wanted natural lip shades to be available too, so she created more natural colored lipsticks.

Makeup art takes a lot of skill and many people tend to glance over that fact. Makeup can be loved and practiced by all. There isn’t a rule saying that you have to be a woman, you have to be young, or you have to be white. Makeup is for everyone to enjoy.
“I think makeup is a form of art in many ways, like I mean there’s these makeup artists out there and they create really pretty works and it takes a lot of talent to do that, so I would say it’s art,” junior Maggie Jones said. “I think everyday makeup like what I wear isn’t really art but certain forms definitely are.”
While many people say that makeup is just a simple task and nothing more, many makeup artists have argued and considered makeup to be a form of art because just like a painter has a canvas to paint and express their art on, makeup artists use faces to spread their artwork. The art of makeup does not have to just be traditional makeup. Many artists will create actual drawings on the face like how a painter would. Artists will use tools like eyeshadow brushes just like an actual paint brush.
“I found out I liked makeup in like sixth grade,” Jones said. “My mom didn’t really have a lot for me to work with, so I would buy like the really really cheap stuff from like dollar tree and just make a mess of my face but it was really fun for me back then.”
